SUSTAINABILITY

All aspects of the TWYG brand have been thoughtfully crafted and with the best intentions.

Sustainability is a journey and one that we will be constantly refining and evolving. We do however value transparency and honesty and understand that as a brand it is our responsibility to tell the truth, with the hope that people acknowledge it is a balancing act.

We are a consumer-packaged goods company at the end of the day. Our customers want the products they get to be clean, and the ingredients to be active and get results.

Our sustainability mission is to develop smart, creative solutions that span across packaging, carbon footprint, ethical sourcing, and non-toxic ingredients.

For our customers this means they know the products have been consciously formulated while still delivering effective, luxurious, uncompromising skincare.

TWYG takes sustainability seriously. Our mission is to develop smart, creative solutions that span across packaging, carbon footprint, ethical sourcing, and non-toxic ingredients.

PACKAGING

Each component of the packaging is made from a different material. They were chosen to ensure they were the most suitable material from a sustainability, functional or aesthetic point of view.

Our bottles and jars are made from glass which is recyclable. Unfortunately we have now learnt that beauty products in general can’t get recycled in New Zealand through curbside bins because of their size, no matter what their material is.

Our lids are made in New Zealand from 98% PCR PP (post-consumer regrind poly prop), recycled plastic and 2% colorant. These are 100% recyclable but again, due to size cant currently be recycled in New Zealand.

Our pumps and droppers are made from PP plastic (virgin) as you can’t currently source recycled versions of these components. These are not recyclable through current council recycling facilities in New Zealand.

Our tube is made from aluminium which is a recyclable material but can't be recycled in New Zealand due to the aforementioned challenge for beauty products.

With all of this in mind and knowing this is a journey, we have the following either in place or in development:

  1. TerraCycle® Zero Waste Box™
  2. Refills
  3. Take Back Collective

How do i recycle twyg?

We encourage you to keep your vessels and purchase the refill options when these become available. We will have a refillable pod for the jar, which customers will be able to purchase separately. This refill pod is made from the same recycled plastic as the lids. We will also have recycled plastic pouches to refill the products that are in glass bottles.

For anything that can’t be recycled or refilled, please send them back to us (details below), so we can recycle on your behalf through TerraCycle®, via their Zero Waste Box™. The components are broken down into raw materials and transformed into new products.

In our effort to find more of a circular model, we are joining forces with other kiwi brands to create the Take Back Collective. This initiative will hopefully see intact bottles being returned to us, hygienically cleaned and put back into circulation. The initiative is in the early stages of development, but we hope to have a long term solution in place in the near future.

We have worked hard to make conscious, mindful choices to do right by people and planet, while also balancing the premiumness of the product.

Packaging is complicated and we acknowledge it’s not perfect as perfect doesn’t really exist. It is an ever changing journey, and we are continuously learning and looking at better options that we can adopt as technology changes and as we grow as a brand.

Please contact hello@twygskincare.com for any queries or when you have a minimum of 3 empty vessels and we will organise collection of them in New Zealand.

Trees that count

We make sure native trees continue to be planted throughout New Zealand and never touch living trees. We’re proud Kahurangi partners and passionate supporters of Trees That Count.

Trees That Count is an environmental initiative dedicated to restoring and enhancing New Zealand’s natural environment through tree planting. Trees That Count raises awareness about the benefits of native tree planting, facilitates tree planting projects, and connects individuals, communities, and businesses with opportunities to support native tree planting.
